Hell yeah! Gates of Hell yeah. I love the weird and wacky ones. I am definitely going to bug my GM to read this, I think it would be super cool to have in games. As a system, it seems unobtrusive and simple to track, which is great. The fact that until you get 8th level spell slots, there's always something out of your control--it's firmly to the left of some typical magical power fantasies, but that's so compelling!
It seems a little more punishing to Warlocks in particular, but they get so much juice out of cantrips that it might actually be less so? Hard to tell without running it. I'm really excited to put together my own Signs and Channels!
Is your DM the DM I'm thinking of, or are you in another game rn?
And yeah, I didn't really know what to do with warlocks. It seems reasonable for half-casters to have limited signs, but warlocks feel like they want lots of drama. I hate to get into too many specific edge-case rules, but I do think warlocks could be well-served by less-controlled signs (somebody else being in charge of their channeling).
Im talking about the Pathfinder game! I know this is a system for 5e but I think it would fit into pathfinder very well.
I really think warlocks could go either way, and it would just be a matter of testing. It's a hell of a thing because they'd have to be at max channel to cast any spells ever but probably wouldn't need to channel for every encounter. Somehow stealthier until the shit hits the fan kind of vibe.
I love how it creates meaningful choices for the magic user when it comes to displaying and even using their full power! The examples evoke that balancing act beautifully!
Excellent flavor and utility! I am sooo stealing this for my next campaign.
I'm so glad! You have to tell me how it goes!!!
I'm also definitely running this as a big part of my next game. I'll post some plot hooks/enemies/magic items tied to the system pretty soon :)
This is amazing. I think it adds an interesting dynamic to being a magic user.
Thank you! I was really aiming for something that gave DMs and players both a new toy to bat back and forth :)
